Secrets From Around the World

We can’t do anything about the natural aging process, but here are some interesting methods that people around the world use to stay looking as young as they can for as long as they can.

In Brazil, it’s common to see women reclining on the beach and rubbing handfuls of sand on their bodies. Why? It supposedly helps with cellulite and smoothes and stimulates the skin.

Camellia oil is said to be the Japanese geisha’s secret to smooth and flawless skin. White camellia nut oil used for centuries in Asia, contributes its moisturizing, conditioning, nourishing, and softening benefits to the skin. Camellia oil gives the skin a texture and glow unmatched by any other skin care product. This special formulation helps eliminate wrinkles after giving birth, revitalizes hair growth, and treats burns. It helps restructure the skin and strengthen nails. It is one of the most rapidly absorbed oils, making it an excellent choice as a facial oil.

China’s anti-aging secret is white tea. White tea comes from the silver tip of the green tea plant. It’s also known as the emperor’s tea. It houses all the antioxidants in the tip. It acts as an environmental shield that free radicals can’t penetrate through. They supposedly bounce off free radicals and fend off aging.

For Scandinavians, they simply drink at least 1.5 liters of pure spring water every day and splash the face 15-20 times twice a day with ice cold spring mineral water which will encourage the skin's own natural functions. It regulates itself without the aid of expensive exfoliating and rejuvenating lotions. The ice cold water helps to reduce puffiness as well.

Getting Thin On Top?

Hair loss is a big worry to many people, both male and female. Hair loss usually develops gradually and may be patchy or diffuse (all over).

The average scalp contains about 100,000 hairs, and roughly 100 hairs are lost from your head every day. This is normal loss, but some people lose much more and there are many causes.

* Hormonal problems may cause hair loss. Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance.
* Hair loss has few medical complications, but several serious conditions can cause it.
* There are some psychological effects associated with going bald.
* Medicines that can cause hair loss include blood thinners , medicines used for gout, medicines used in chemotherapy to treat cancer, vitamin A (if too much is taken), birth control pills and antidepressants.
* Certain infections can cause hair loss.
* Fungal infections of the scalp can cause hair loss in children.
* Finally, hair loss may occur as part of an underlying disease, such as lupus or diabetes.

For Men hair loss is male pattern baldness, and in the UK two-thirds of all men will eventually be affected by male pattern baldness. Other types of hair loss, including rare conditions such as alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis, where the entire scalp and entire body, respectively, become completely bald due to a viral condition can be irreversible.

For Women hair loss is different. There is no set pattern for women's androgenic hair loss, which like MPB, occurs in the overwhelming majority of cases. Women can suffer from alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis just like men. Sometimes there is a condition where the hair follicles make thinner and thinner hair, until eventually they pack up completely.

Treatments (Always consult your medical professional)

Surgical techniques for restoring hair have improved greatly in the past couple of decades, but this is still an option that requires careful consideration.
Medicines may also help slow or prevent the development of common baldness. One medicine, minoxidil (brand name: Rogaine), is available without a prescription.
Hair transplantation - tiny punch-holes of skin containing a few follicles of hair are taken from elsewhere in the body (such as the back of the head, if this is still well covered) and implanted into the thinning areas.
Scalp reduction - devices are inserted under the skin to stretch areas of scalp that still have hair, then the redundant bald areas are removed. Alternatively, flaps of hairy scalp can be moved around the head.
Regular aerobic exercise can help keep androgen levels (particularly free testosterone levels) naturally lower while maintaining overall health and lowering stress.
Eating a balanced, healthy diet is important for a lot of reasons, and it really benefits your hair.
Modern mini-grafting and micro-grafting techniques have resulted in convincing, natural looking hair transplants

Oatmeal paste.

Mix 2 tbsp oatmeal,
4 tbsp plain yoghurt,
1 tbsp lemon juice,
1 tbsp chopped parsley,
and 1 tsp olive oil together.

Massage into the skin, rinse off after about 4/5 minutes. This is great for oily or irritated skin.
You can put a handful of oatmeal into the toe of your old pantyhose and use it to scrub your whole body, too.

Mask to treat wrinkles.

Beat 1 egg into 2 tbsp of milk.
Wash your skin first then gently dab this concoction on.
Rinse with warm water after 4/5 minutes.
Add moisturizer.

If brown spots trouble you, use a vitamin C lotion under your make-up. This will help to neutralize free radicals that sabotage your skin after exposure to sunlight.

Copper peptide is one of the newest patented ingredients that works against sagging. It is an antioxidant thought to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the skin.

From about age 30 the skin's natural ability to get rid of dead skin is impaired and this makes it look dull. Exfoliating your skin regularly, will keep it in good condition and help to create that translucent look.

Look for products that contain alpha-, beta-, and poly-hydroxy acids. They will help slough off the dead skin, bringing fresh new cells to the surface.

How To Stay Young

From the "Catholic New Times", Jan 30, 2005 by George Carlin

1 Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay "them."

2 Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3 Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

4 Enjoy the simple things.

5 Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6 The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7 Surround yourself with what you love, Whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8 Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9 Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
